Our Rechrome Plating Process

Embark on the journey of restoration with our Rechrome Plating Process, where expertise and precision converge to breathe new life into your cherished metal items.

Begin by conducting a meticulous inspection to understand the unique requirements of your item. Next, strip away old chrome layers and contaminants, revealing the true condition of the base metal. Elevate the surface through intensive cleaning and polishing, ensuring a flawless foundation for optimal adhesion during the chrome plating process.

Introduce a layer of high-quality nickel to fortify the base metal, enhancing both durability and setting the stage for the impeccable chrome finish.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT FOR RESULTS?

Rechroming an existing chrome surface is a specialized procedure that demands unique attention. In contrast to chrome plating original OE (Original Equipment) painted components, rechroming involves additional steps and care, especially when dealing with previously chrome-plated wheels or parts. The primary focus during rechroming is on the front side of the wheel, where the process involves adding copper to the wheel and mechanically buffing the face. This technique pushes the copper plating into the pores of the face, effectively filling in porosity and making rechroming feasible.

The machinery employed for this process includes an upright buffing machine, allowing the operator to press the wheel's face into the buffing pad and push copper into the alloy's pores. While buffing is effective for the front side, it is not feasible for the inside barrel and backside of the wheel. The examples below illustrate what to expect before and after rechroming. It's important to note that some residual pitting may remain, which is unavoidable in the completion of the rechroming process.

Explore the samples below to identify suitable wheel/part candidates for rechroming and gain an understanding of the expected results. Rechroming is not a flawless process; although the plating is new, any damage on the base alloy will be visible. Concentrating on the face side of the wheel, open wheel designs with corrosion on the inner barrel may present challenges. Additional processes like bead blasting or painting can be employed to improve the appearance of the barrel area and conceal corrosion damage. Examples of these processes are provided. For inquiries or to initiate the rechroming process, please contact us by phone or through the email form, and feel free to share pictures of the items you wish to have rechromed.

HOW DOES RECHROME WORK?

STEP 1 - SEND US YOUR INFORMATION

Once we receive your details, we'll promptly provide information regarding your request and pricing, if feasible. Rechrome pricing slightly exceeds that of a first-time chrome plate, reflecting the additional steps involved in removing existing metals from the wheel or part.

When you're prepared to proceed with the rechrome work, kindly complete the customer instruction sheet. Safely package your order and arrange for shipment to us. For your convenience, we recommend utilizing FedEx for the shipping process. Upon receipt of your wheel/part, we'll initiate the rechrome process, ensuring meticulous attention to detail and quality craftsmanship.

STEP 2 - CATALOGING IN YOUR PARTS

Upon receiving your parts we will catalog them into our system, take pictures, and engrave

STEP 3 - DOUBLE CHECKING YOUR REQUEST

We'll reach out to you for a detailed discussion regarding your instructions. This includes going through the customer instruction sheet together to ensure complete alignment and clarity. Our aim is to make certain that all aspects of your request are thoroughly understood and that we are on the same page throughout the process. Your satisfaction is our priority, and open communication ensures a seamless and successful experience.

STEP 4 - REQUESTING PAYMENT

Payment will be requested for rechrome services. We accept payment through personal checks, wire transfers, and money orders. Currently, credit cards are not accepted for rechromes. Your understanding and cooperation in this matter are appreciated.

STEP 5 - CHROME STRIPPING

Once payment is received we will begin our rechroming processing
which begins with chrome stripping, removing all the previous metals and examining the raw wheel for any corrosion issues.

STEP 6 - OBTAINING YOUR APPROVAL

Upon the review of your raw wheel’s condition, we will contact you, send you pictures, discuss and obtain your approval to the continue rechrome plating process.

STEP 7 - OPTIONAL ADDITIONAL PROCEDURES

Upon the completion of the plating removal phase, we provide images showcasing the base substrate, essentially your part in its raw form. This step allows us to jointly assess any potential corrosion or damage issues that may require discussion. In many instances, wheels or parts are found to be in satisfactory condition to seamlessly proceed with the rechrome process.

However, there may be specific areas of concern that could deem a wheel or part unsuitable for rechroming. Each case is unique, and we prioritize an individualized approach. If issues arise, alternative processes can often be employed to address them. Options include bead blasting, additional copper cycles, painting the inner barrel, or exploring different processes altogether. The associated costs of these options vary, and you, as the customer, have the final say on whether these additional measures are necessary, guided by our expertise.

Illustrated here is a successful rechrome of a set of Viper Truck wheels, showcasing additional procedures such as Copper Plating, Bead Blasting, Primer, and Painting. These supplementary steps may be employed as needed to achieve optimal results on a rechrome. The highlighted example reflects a satisfied customer who was extremely pleased with the final outcome.
